The Issues

In recent years, we have had many issues facing our schools:

  • The threat of closing swimming pools and cutting sports programs.
  • The threat of closing Sabillasville ES (2009 and 2010)
  • The removal of school buses for many of our students, followed by the FCPS Transportation Department redrafting their walkers policies.
  • The adoption of ineffective, questionable curriculum and other materials
  • Budget dilemmas that have threatened to cause layoffs, the ending of sports and music programs and other vital services.
  • The removal of numerous health professionals at a number of our schools, leaving school administrators responsible for health needs in addition to administrative needs.
  • The construction of a new building for FCPS staff, which was supposed to result in consolidation, but has only added to overhead expense
  • The recent (and not infrequent) discovery that financial projections and realities are millions of dollars apart.

What Can I Do?

  • Elect Board of Education members who will represent your needs.
  • Appear at school board meetings and speak about the issues.
